Operator guide

How much to charge for pickleball club membership

A practical guide for indoor pickleball club owners and operators.

Short answer: There is no single right price. Anchor it to what clubs within driving distance charge and to your cost per court-hour, then offer clear tiers: a lower-priced daytime tier, a full-access tier with prime booking priority, and pay-to-play for newcomers. Review the prices each quarter against your utilization by daypart.

1. Start with your costs

Add up your monthly fixed costs (rent, staff, utilities, software, insurance) and divide by the court-hours you can sell. That cost per available court-hour is your floor: prime prices need to sit well above it, and off-peak programs should at least cover it.

2. Check the local market

Call or browse every indoor club, rec center and tennis club with pickleball within a reasonable drive. Note their membership prices, what each tier includes, guest fees and drop-in rates. You are pricing against the alternatives your players actually have.

3. Build tiers with an obvious buyer for each

Daytime

Booking only before a set time (e.g. 4pm). Priced below full access. Fills off-peak hours.

Full access

Prime booking, earlier booking windows and priority league spots.

Pay-to-play

No monthly fee and higher per-session prices. A low-risk way for newcomers to try the club.

4. Price on perks, not just court time

Booking window length, guest passes, league discounts, clinic credits and event access let you separate tiers without cutting the headline price.

5. Use founding pricing carefully

A limited founding rate can help a new club launch. Cap it by number or date, and decide up front whether it is locked in for life or ends after a set term.

6. Review quarterly

If prime is always full with a waiting list, there may be room to raise full-access prices. If daytime sits empty, change the daytime tier or add programs before discounting.

FAQ

How much should an indoor pickleball club charge for membership?

Base it on your cost per available court-hour and on what nearby clubs charge, then offer tiers: a daytime tier below full price, a full-access tier with prime booking priority, and pay-to-play for newcomers.

Should a pickleball club offer unlimited memberships?

Unlimited access can work if prime capacity holds up. Many clubs pair it with booking limits or a separate daytime tier so prime courts don't become impossible to book.

What is a daytime membership tier?

A tier that only allows booking before a set time, such as 4pm, at a lower price. It gives daytime players a reason to join without discounting prime hours.

How often should I change membership prices?

Review quarterly against utilization by daypart and waiting lists, and give members advance notice of any increase.
